Positive Motor-vation Ltd

My name is Linda Tucker and I founded Positive Motor-vation.  Whilst driving on the motorway in April 2001, I was involved in a serious road accident which nearly claimed my life.  Subsequently, I suffered severe travel anxiety both as a driver and when travelling as a passenger.  At this time, I had been an approved Driving Instructor for 14 years, but I was unable to face driving or travel as a passenger in a car or travel by public transport.

I attended Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for approximately one year at my Counsellor's home.  The sessions had very little effect on my travel anxiety and as the counsellor lived a few miles away, I had problems getting to the sessions.  I studied CBT and used the techniques to help me overcome my own travel anxieties.

I realised that other people who are required to travel for CBT therapy may experience the same problems.  I attended college and qualified as a CBT counsellor.  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the core conditions come under the umbrella of humanistic counselling.  I have therefore, combined my skills as a driving instructor and my CBT counselling skills.  I specialise in dealing with clients with travel phobia who, in the main have been involved in road accidents.

I founded the company, which I believe is unique, in December 2004 and cover the whole of the British Isles, travelling to client's homes.  With my counselling qualifications and driving instructor skills, I carry out 'in car' therapy with the client.  I work at the client's pace, changing their thinking patterns, thus enabling them to move forward and take responsibility for driving again and also, when travelling as a passenger.

Since the company was established I have treated over 150 client and to date, I have had 100% success rate.

I am also a qualified Public Carriage Vehicle (PCV) licence holder.  This qualifies me to drive vehicles from a mini-bus to a 40ft double decker coach.  I also have experience of riding motorcycles, so I can deal with any type of travel anxiety.  Recently I successfully treated a client who was involved in a road traffic accident whilst riding a horse and subsequently, suffered anxiety when horse riding in traffic.

Nurmally, a client will feel much more comfortable within approximately 6 sessions, depending on the type of RTA.

Please note:  One session is not necessarily one hour.
